Game mechanics
For those who aren't familiar with the game, you swap letters to uncover hidden words. These letters, once moved around, give you color cues that represent a specific condition, which are:
🟩 Green - the letter is correct and in the right spot. It can no longer be moved.
🟨 Yellow - the letter is in the correct row or column, but in the wrong position. You need to swap it around.
⬛ Gray - the letter is in the wrong row or column, and is in the wrong word. You'll need to move it somewhere else.
Each 9x9 practice puzzle gives you a limited number of swaps, so use them wisely to win. No matter how many letters or words are in play, every Crosswordle puzzle still maxes out at a perfect six-star score.

Win/lose conditions
To win: Turn all tiles green by solving every word without burning through your swap stock.
To lose: Run out of swaps before cracking all rows and columns — game over.
⚠️ Keep in mind, Crosswordle doesn't implement a time limit on any mode, so take your time if need be and plan your swaps accordingly!
Available game modes
Currently, we have two game modes available for both the classic 7x7 and the 9x9 Crosswordle puzzles:
Daily 9x9 Mode: A new puzzle drops every 24 hours, worldwide, regardless of your time zone. You get one shot per daily puzzle — mess it up or miss a day, and your streak resets to zero.
Unlimited 9x9 Mode: Play as much as you want, no pressure and risk-free. Scores are saved if you're logged in, but they don't affect your streak at all, making this mode an ideal training tool.

Why train with Unlimited 9x9 Mode?
In most grid-type puzzles, the size of the grid is relative to its general difficulty. Meaning, the bigger the grid is, the harder it is to solve, and that certainly applies to Crosswordle. The classic 7x7 grid provided just the right amount of challenge, but with the 9x9 grid, every difficulty-related aspect of the game goes up a notch:
- 🔼 Word length
- 🔼 Word complexity
- 🔼 Rate of intersections
- 🔼 Playtime
- 🔼 Overall complexity
And if you're looking to become a proficient Crosswordle solver, practicing with a risk-free tool like the Unlimited 9x9 Mode is essential for the following reasons:
- ✅ Zero pressure
- ✅ Your streaks and important scores are unaffected
- ✅ Every training puzzle is different
- ✅ Unlimited practice possibilities
Training tips
Don't be afraid to make mistakes
Unlimited 9x9 Mode's biggest strength is that it will never run out of puzzles, and your results won't affect your streaks and main leaderboard scores. This is the mode where you can mess up all you want, practice everything that comes to mind and learn naturally.
Practice vocabulary
Since the grid is bigger, the words are longer, and there are even more words in play. While Crosswordle rarely uses complex words, longer words can be difficult to discern, especially if most of the row or column is grayed out.
But this is Unlimited 9x9—you can practice your word library through constant practice and failure without any risk and pressure.
Learn swap efficiency
While the 9x9 grid does provide a bit more swaps than the 7x7 modes, swap efficiency must still be practiced. After all, no matter how big Crosswordle grids get, the perfect score will always be six stars, so training your swap strategies remains crucial to get the best scores possible.
