Crosswordle tips
Here are seven things that you can keep in mind to improve your Crosswordle skills and keep that streak going.
1. Practice using Unlimited Mode
We can't stress this enough—practice using Unlimited/Practice Mode first before doing your daily challenges! Unlimited Mode doesn't count towards your streaks, so you can fail, learn and try as many times as you want without any worry. We understand that the thrill and challenge of going directly to Daily Mode is different, as there are higher stakes involved, but are you really willing to put an end to your long streak just because of that?
2. Scan your grid
Knowing what your grid contains is the first thing to do. You don't have to memorize everything—just get a general bearing of where everything is. Which rows or columns have the most green letters? Which letters are in the wrong position? How many gray letters are we working with? Knowing the basic gist of the puzzle helps you start creating your path towards victory.
3. Hit the vowels
Crosswordle uses common terms for its valid words, and common words are vowel-reliant. So to avoid just randomly guessing words and wasting your swaps, hit the shortest or green-letter rich rows or columns with vowels. While most of the time, vowels are in the middle, there are times when the beginning or end of a word can be the correct locations, too.
4. Clear the yellows
Once the vowels are in place, you can start clearing out the yellow letters one by one. Why yellows? Unlike gray letters, yellows are already in the right row or column; you'll just have to work out where exactly they fit best. Gray letters are usually newbie traps, where they swap letters all willy-nilly and end up using most of their swap stock with not much to show for it.
5. Pace yourself
Go for quick wins. Don't try to solve everything in one fell swoop—that's how you burn through a lot of your swap stock. Crosswordle puzzles already have everything you need in there, and it basically solves itself over time, so don't get pressured into trying to clear out grays or long words from the get-go. Hit the shortest words first, and while you do swaps, you'll be surprised to see that the other rows and columns already have yellows or greens in them.
6. Guess remaining valid words beforehand in lategame
In the late game, where swap efficiency is the most crucial, it's best to start thinking about the possible answers based on the color-feedback system. As you near the ~10 swap counter, you can probably surmise what the words are, even if they aren't complete yet. With that in mind, pre-emptive word guessing works wonders in getting a perfect score.
7. Screenshot results for self-assessment and confidence
Keeping track of your practice scores doesn't just make you feel better about your success—it's also a great indicator of your current skill level. If your practice sessions before yielded around two stars or less and now you're regularly getting four or more, then it's a very good sign that you've greatly improved at playing!
