30 Best Wordle Variants for 2025—Ranked by Difficulty

30 Wordle Variants to play

Wordle® took the world by storm during its introduction in the tail-end of the COVID-19 pandemic. With its massive popularity, it unintentionally created a subgenre of its own, daily logic word games, and spawned many variants.

These Wordle spinoffs became popular on their own, as they provided a different twist or gimmick to the original formula. In this comprehensive list, we'll be ranking* 40 of the best puzzles based on grid count/type, challenge, replayability and more!

*This list is based on our opinion, and other players/users may have different receptions of a game/title.

Wordle is a registered trademark of the New York Times and is used in this list as a comparative basis only.

Criteria for ranking

Wordle

Not every Wordle game clone can just make it in this list, as these will be the criteria we'll use to determine which ones make the cut:

  • Color-feedback system (or something similar). This is what made Wordle what it is. Not the five-letter word guessing, nor the emoji-based social sharing feature. The offshoot must have a color-feedback system or something similar to its main gameplay loop.
  • Daily mode or Unlimited mode. Wordle variations need to have a daily or unlimited play aspect to them. While you can't play as many rounds as you want in the original Wordle without a subscription, it does offer a free game daily (which is what most people played).
  • Accessible. Another facet that made Wordle explode in popularity. The game needs to be accessible via a web browser or an app.

Tridle

Another spinoff, you have three grids to play with in this version. Each input goes into the three grids, and you have eight guesses to spare. Interestingly, this website has been known to pass through most office and school firewalls that block out gaming-related URLs, making it playable on restricted devices.

Quordle

A word game that offers four grids to play with. Every input reflects on four grids, and you have nine guesses on hand.

  • Free-to-play

Play Kilordle online →

Polydle

This Wordle is currently the hardest possible spinoff we can think of. Unlike most other titles, this puzzle game is adjustable, allowing you to play 1 to 2315 grids at once. However, keep in mind that this site will CRASH the browser of a normal device if you input 500+ grids to solve (yes, we tried it on a phone, tablet and laptop, don't do it.)

If you REALLY want to do it, on devices with < 8 GB RAM you may see sluggish performance above ~500 grids. Don't say we didn't warn you!

  • Free-to-play
  • 1-2315 grids
  • Multiple modes

Theme-based variants

Canuckle — A Theme Based Variant

These are Wordle spinoffs that revolve around a certain theme for the words you need to guess.

Canuckle

A Canada-based variant, it plays just like the original, but changes the green and yellow squares for something more Canuck. While primarily it uses five-letter words, it also includes six- and seven-letter words in its pool. The secret word also reveals a fun fact about Canada!

Worldle

A country-guessing game that uses a distinct combination of color-feedback, directional and percentage hint systems. You're given the shape of a country, and you have six guesses for it. Each guess will have a color-feedback, directional and percentage hint to help you track down the target country.

  • Free-to-play
  • Educational
  • Daily mode/Bonus rounds

Play Worldle online →

Daydle

A date-guessing game that uses a different type of color-feedback system. You're given the context of a historical event, and you have to guess it in six tries. What makes it different and challenging is its color-feedback system, as you can't guess like you would in Wordle. Interestingly, you don't need to be among history buffs to win here, as the game itself is solvable through logic.

  • Free-to-play
  • Educational
  • Daily mode

Play Daydle online →

Globle

A country-guessing game that uses a color-feedback system, which uses a hot-cold mechanic based on general location to nudge you in the right direction. It has an infinite number of guesses, but the fewer guesses you make, the better you'll do!

  • Educational
  • Daily mode/Unlimited mode

Play Globle online →

Flagle

A flag-guessing game that uses a literal color-feedback system. There's a target flag, you guess a country, and the flag of the country you guessed for will be rated based on how close it is to the colors of the target flag. It also offers more educational bonus games after you complete the daily mode!

  • Free-to-play
  • Educational
  • Daily mode/Bonus rounds

CineNerdle/Cine2Nerdle

Play CineNerdle online →

Taylordle

A Wordle variant dedicated to Taylor Swift-related info and trivia. It works just like the original game, but the target words differ in letter count, as sometimes it's a five-letter word, then tomorrow it'd be an eight-letter word.

  • Taylor Swift-centric
  • Daily mode/Unlimited mode

Play Taylordle online →

ReHeardle

A unique Wordle variant that uses clipped music sections to hint at the target song title. The original Heardle got shut down in 2023 by Spotify, but ReHeardle is the alternative that everyone is looking for.

Number-based guessing games

Nerdle — Number Based Wordle Variant

These are Wordle clones that involve the use of Math and replaces all the letters with numbers and operations instead.

Mathler

A Wordle spinoff that is centered around guessing the proper calculation of a given number. It uses the same color-feedback system of Wordle, but this time, the answer is given to you, and you need to input the right digits and operations that result in that number in particular.

  • Completely free
  • Math-centric
  • Multiple modes

Play Mathler online →

Mini Nerdle

A Math-centric variant that focuses on basic arithmetic while applying a color-feedback system. This game is the easier version of its parent game, and gives you six guesses to get the solution right.

  • Completely free
  • Math-centric
  • Multiple modes

Play Mini Nerdle online →

Nerdle

An arithmetic-based Wordle clone, this game revolves around guessing the right solution. You have to fit in the right number of digits and the correct sum, difference, etc. You can't guess willy-nilly as the inputted solutions must be correct for them to be color-categorized.

  • Completely free
  • Math-centric
  • Multiple modes

Play Nerdle online →

Primel

A number-centric spinoff, it's similar to Wordle play mechanics. Instead of a target word, you guess the right prime number. Every input you make must be a five-digit prime number, or the game won't accept it.

  • Completely free
  • Math-centric
  • Unlimited mode (but technically, there are only 8,363 prime numbers)

Hard mode/joke mechanics

Absurdle - A Hard Mode Wordle Variant

These are Wordle variants that are centered on weird, humorous or impossibly difficult mechanics that are meant to make the player amused or frustrated.

Sweardle

Heads-up: not safe for work or kids (NSFW). This is a Wordle spinoff that specifically revolves around guessing the right four-letter cuss or derogatory word. Funnily, the creator remains anonymous because they know having this game in their portfolio will automatically blow up their job interviews.

  • Completely free
  • Crass humor
  • Daily mode

Play Sweardle online →

Don't Wordle

Tired of the same six words you cycle on every Wordle clone to get the right answer? This game will change that, as here, you specifically must not guess the right five-letter word. And the more you try to guess, the fewer letters you can work with. It sounds like a funny variant, but it gets difficult the more you guess.

  • Completely free
  • Unconventional
  • Unlimited mode

Play Don't Wordle online →

Eldrow

This is the perfect game to play when you get Wordle fatigue. Here, you think of a word, and the computer will always start with SERAI. Now you're the one who will be doing the color-feedback for the computer, and the goal is to think of a five-letter word so hard it'll use up all of its guesses.

  • Completely free
  • Unconventional
  • Unlimited mode

Play Eldrow online →

Absurdle

If Wordle is too easy for you and you want a word game that fights back, this is what you're looking for. Here, you have unlimited inputs, but the game will actively hinder you from winning fast and even change the target word when certain conditions are triggered. This is not a game to have fun with, but to compete against a code and prove human superiority!

  • Completely free
  • Unconventional
  • Unlimited mode

Play Absurdle online →

Evil Wordle

This is for the most hardcore of Wordlers looking for the ultimate "fun" punishment. The color system and five-letter word input are the same as the original Wordle, but this time, there is no target word and the computer reads whatever you throw at it and actively sabotages you. Don't abide by the usual rules; the main goal is to make all the letters green.
